writer traveler dreamer

Through my soul flows a stream of curiosity and adventure that runs down from my Appalachian ancestors and even before them and crashes and splashes through me as I navigate the world. From my earliest memories I felt the pull of faraway places and long ago times.

Add to this pull of curiosity a love for reading and it just naturally follows that I would become a writer. When the children were young and the days long, reading was more than just a pastime, it was the adventure that I lived in the realm of my imagination, and creating stories of my own was my salvation.

And when the opportunities came for traveling, I went. To Atlanta and my first ride on a commuter train, to La Antigua Guatemala where the melted red glow seemed to flow from the dark sky to be followed by smoke and steam in the morning, to the Sierra Madre in Coahuila, Mexico, and on to the Pacific Northwest, with many stops in between.

The pull of curiosity is as strong now as it has ever been.

My heart’s desire is to inspire people to grow. To learn new things, big or small. To plant a flower or bake a cake or smile at a stranger. To drive a tractor or go down a water slide. I don’t aspire to perfection. I aspire to improvement.
